Need for Career counselling in Schools

Tue Sep 20, 2022

Meaning of Career Counselling:

The purpose of career counselling is to educate students about the numerous career alternatives that are suitable for them based on their aptitude, passion, and potential.

Current Scenario:

  • 99 % of students make a wrong career choice. (Source: Inc)
  • 93% of students are aware of just 7 career options. (Source: Mindler)
  • 8 out of every 10 employees are unhappy with their jobs. (Survey: Times Jobs)
  • 85% of higher education candidates are not equipped to make career decisions. (Survey: Wheebox)

Causes of selecting a wrong Career:

  • Parental Influence.
  • Peer pressure.
  • Choosing a course of study just to go abroad.
  • Choose the popular career paths because that's what everyone else does.
  • Lack of knowledge about other disciplines.

Need to have Career Counselling at School:

  • Students respond better to career counselling in schools than in colleges because they are more adaptable and receptive at a young age.
  • After the tenth grade, students must decide whether to major in science, commerce, or the arts.

  • Making the wrong decision wastes time, money, and effort and puts further stress on parents.
  • These days, parents not only pay attention to their children's academic performance but also to their future.
  •  Counsellors are now required in all schools by the CBSE board.
